Wacom is awesome, their products are simply amazing (except the Cintiqs, they're just made out of win). Anyways, I've recently purchased a Wacom Bamboo Small and I've got to say, this thing is lovely.
My preliminary concern was using it. I imagined it to be a very awkward piece of hardware that would be totally unresponsive and nothing like a real pen.
I was wrong. This thing works, and I didn't even read the tutorial, just installed and used it. The surface behaves like a paper analogue and it really does feel like drawing on paper (albeit a little rubbery). I don't get why people say this is a hard thing to use, it feels so natural!
My second concern was size. This has an active area of 3.7" x 5.8". I first thought "this thing is tiny" and "...". However, it seemed so nice. Drawing on it quickly became second instinct.
Now, for the reason why I
love this thing. I'm saving paper. Yes, that is it. Paper saving. No more spending a whole pack of Xerox paper on doodles, I have a tablet now. If you're an über paper consumer like me, this will pay for itself in the first week. Seriously.
If you're an even remotely serious artist and you kill orchards every year from paper use, get a tablet if you can. You'll make yourself feel better and the environment too.
